Midland oilman named IPAA head

WASHINGTON The Independent Petroleum Association of America Board of Directors on Monday named Steven H. “Steve” Pruett, president-CEO of Elevation Resources in Midland, as IPAA chairman for 2022-2024.

“In the upcoming session of Congress, we’ll educate freshmen and veteran members and elevate our dialogue with the federal agencies regulating our industry,” said Pruett, who served the past year as IPAA vice chairman. “My primary goal is to ensure our financial sustainability by re-engaging our existing members and recruiting new members.

“Our mission is to preserve our industry’s ability to develop and produce oil and natural gas responsibly in the United States. I believe we have a greater impact on federal upstream legislation and regulation than any other association. My job is to help communicate that to our members and join arms with our staff and members when needed in Washington.”

Pruett co-founded Elevation Resources, a Permian Basin exploration and production company, in 2013 after working as senior vice president of corporate development at Concho Resources for a year. He co-founded and was president-CFO of Legacy Reserves from 2006-2012. Pruett earned a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA at the Harvard University Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.

He is a past chairman of the Permian Basin Petroleum Association, where he serves on the finance committee, and he is a member of the board of governors of the Midland Memorial Hospital Foundation, where he chairs the investment committee.

The IPAA is an upstream trade association representing thousands of independent oil and natural gas producers and service companies across the United States. “Independent producers develop 91 percent of the nation’s oil and natural gas wells,” an IPAA spokeswoman said..

”These companies account for 83 percent of America’s oil production and 90 percent of its natural gas and natural gas liquids production and they support over 4.5 million American jobs.”
