Steven P. Thompson announced Wednesday his campaign for re-election as Odessa City Councilman for District 2 during a press conference at Odessa City Hall.

Thompson is proud of the accomplishes the council has made during his first term and is anxious to continue to work for the betterment of his home town, a news release said.

“If I am re-elected, the agenda for my second term will be the same as my first term of office — to do what’s best for Odessa and our continued growth as the energy capital of West Texas. I always research the facts on every issue we face and make an educated decision that will benefit all Odessans,” he said.

Local city elections will take place on Nov. 5.

One of the advancements made during Thompson’s first term in office is the improvement of the infrastructure of Odessa’s water treatment plant, a project that was started in 2020 and is nearing completion. “We have a lot of issues with our infrastructure as you know — water, wastewater and roads. And it takes a lot of capital to repair all this old infrastructure so we can move forward. I am committed to help find the resources we need to get all this done,” he added.

“We have found ways to get pay increases to City staff, as well as our Police and Fire Departments, which will help recruitment for these critical services. And I will always work to find the most cost-effective way to address Odessa’s most critical needs during my second term,” Thompson added.

He continues, ”I am also excited at the progress being made on the Faudree Road construction project and the planned multipurpose sports complex, both of which will bring new jobs that will benefit not just northeast Odessa, but our entire city.”

Thompson is a life-long Odessan who attended Permian High School and Odessa College before earning his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Texas Tech University in marketing. Thompson retired from STA Benefits, the company he ran successfully for 40 years, in 2014 and has devoted his efforts to the betterment of Odessa and West Texas. He also serves as a general partner in SPT Oil and Gas, LP. Steve and his wife, Janice, reside in Odessa.
