TOKYO Bryce Hoppel’s first run in the Olympics has come to an end.
The Midland High graduate finished in fifth place of the first semifinal heat of the Olympic 800 meters Sunday at Olympic Stadium with a time of 1 minute, 44.91 seconds and did not advance to the final, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
Hoppel led for the majority of the race before the close finish from the other runners.
Patryk Dobek of Poland (1:44.60) and Emmanuel Korir of Kenya (1:44.74) finished first and second, respectively, to automatically qualify for the final.
