WALNUT, CALIF. Midland High graduate Bryce Hoppel added a third victory to his 2021 total with the latest win coming at the USA Track and Field Golden Games Sunday at Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College.
Hoppel won the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1 minute, 44.94 seconds, which is a season-best outdoor time and a new stadium record.
He finished just ahead of former UTEP runner Michael Saruni (1:45.18), 2016 bronze medalist Clayton Murphy (1:45.31) and Isaiah Harris (1:45.50). Harris won the NCAA Division I title in the 800 back in 2018 at Penn State.
Hoppel won the indoor 800 at the American Track League meet in Fayetteville, Ark. in Janurary and won the 1,000 meters at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in New York.
