CORPUS CHRISTI The Midland RockHounds scored three runs in the eighth inning Tuesday to rally for a 4-2 victory over the Corpus Christi Hooks in Texas League action at Whataburger Field.
Down 2-1 after seven innings, Midland pulled even when Kevin Merrell scored on a wild pitch. Dairon Blanco drove in the go-ahead run when he hit into a force out and Jonah Heim followed with an RBI single.
Zack Erwin (3-2) pitched two shutout innings in relief for the win, striking out two. Kyle Finnegan struck out the side in the ninth for his seventh save.
Corpus Christi took a 2-0 lead in the third on run-scoring singles by Abraham Toro and Seth Beer. Midland got on the board in the sixth on Mikey White’s RBI double, the only extra-base hit of the game.
Luis Barrera went 2 for 4 and scored two runs for the RockHounds. Carlos Canelon was 3 for 3 for the Hooks and Toro finished 2 for 4.
Midland starter James Naile held the Hooks to two runs on six hits over six innings. He struck out four.
Corpus Christi reliever Carlos Sanabria (3-1) was charged with three unearned runs in 1.1 innings.
