MIDLAND Nate Mondou homered and drove in three runs Saturday as the Midland RockHounds defeated the Frisco RoughRiders 7-2 in Texas League action at Security Bank Balllpark.
Mondou went 2 for 4 with a double as the RockHounds moved within 1½ games of Frisco in the South Division.
Logan Verrett (1-0) struck out eight in seven innings to get the win, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks.
Chase Calabuig and Mikey White both went 2 for 5 with an RBI for Midland. Christian Lopes was 2 for 4 with a double and scored both runs for the RoughRiders.
Frisco’s Juremi Profar singled in a run in the first, but Mondou and Jonah Heim had back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth to give Midland a 2-1 lead.
Frisco tied it on Preston Beck’s RBI single in the sixth before the RockHounds erupted for five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Mondou’s first homer of the season, a two-run shot off Jairo Beras (1-2) put Midland ahead to stay. Anthony Miller scored on a wild pitch before Calabuig and White delivered consecutive RBI singles.
The series concludes at 2 p.m. Sunday before the RockHounds visit Amarillo for three games starting Monday.
