MIDLAND Two second-half goals proved to be the difference for Sockers FC as it fell 2-0 to the Denton Diablos in the regular season finale Saturday at Grande Communications Stadium.
Both teams were scoreless at halftime before Sam Coad scored twice within the final 10 minutes of the match to give Denton (8-1-1 overall, 25 points) the NPSL Lone Star Conference regular season title.
The Sockers (5-2-3, 18 points) were locked into the No. 3 seed after the Laredo Heat defeated Coyotes FC Friday. The Heat will be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and will host the Sockers in the opening round of the postseason that begins Wednesday.
