The Odessa Jackalopes came away with an 8-2 victory over the El Paso Rhinos Friday at the Ector County Coliseum.
The eight goals marked a season-high in a single game for the Jackalopes this campaign, with eight different players finding the back of the net.
An aggressive start on the offensive end helped the Jackalopes jump in front of the Rhinos in the game’s first period.
Dayne Hoyord came in off a quick substitution and immediately found himself in front of the El Paso goal, converting his shot attempt to give the Jackalopes a 1-0 lead about eight minutes after the game started.
The Jackalopes built their lead up to 5-0, until El Paso’s Matt Johnson had an answer with 5:23 left in the second period.
Odessa’s Chris Duclair extended his team’s lead by scoring his 13th goal of the season, powering a distance shot past the Rhinos goaltender to go into the third period.
John Perdion and Trevor Taulien scored the Jackalopes’ final two goals of the contest, helping their team end a two-game losing streak.
Johnson and Tyler Pfister led the scoring for the Rhinos.
After the contest, the Jackalopes (18-10-1-1) sat in second in the North American Hockey League’s South Division.
They’ll continue regular season play against the Amarillo Wranglers at 7:05 p.m. next Friday at the Budweiser Bullpen in Amarillo.
