After spending the majority of their early season games on the road, the Odessa Jackalopes haven’t quite figured out how to make the most of being at home yet.
The Jackalopes dropped their second straight contest against the Lone Star Brahmas by a 2-1 score Friday at the Ector County Coliseum.
Odessa lost Friday night before by the same score in a shootout after being tied 1-1.
The Jackalopes wasted no time putting an emphasis on their offensive attack, quickly taking multiple shots on Brahmas’ goaltender Jan Skorpik early in the first period.
Persistence played in Odessa’s favor, as Trevor Taulien was able to shoot the puck past Skorpik to give his team a 1-0 lead over the Brahmas with 4:06 taken off the clock.
That lead would last for about 12 minutes, with the Jackalopes regrouping at a fast pace to slow down any breaks from the Brahmas.
Aidan Torres hit a high shot to score and tie the contest up with less than four minutes remaining until the end of the first period.
Odessa still held the upper hand on scoring opportunities, taking 12 shots on goal compared to the Brahmas’ 10.
The late goal gave Lone Star some positive momentum going into the second period, as it took Tanner Daniels a minute and 15 seconds to give his team a 2-1 advantage.
Although the Brahmas had some chances to extend their lead after breaking through the Jackalopes’ defense, they couldn’t capitalize and gave the home team more opportunities to even things up.
The Jackalopes believed they evened things up with 9:53 left in the second period when a John Perdion shot went into the top left corner of Skorpik’s goal.
After a brief discussion, officials waved the goal off.
Odessa came close to tying things up with three seconds left in the second period, with a shot from Taulien missing the Lone Star goal by inches to the right.
The Brahmas took 11 shots throughout the period, while the Jackalopes took six.
Although things would get chippy toward the end of the contest, the score remained the same and the Jackalopes couldn’t get past the Brahmas defense.
