SPRINGFIELD MO. The Midland RockHounds used a three-run surge in the top of the ninth inning to come back and take a 8-7 win over the Springfield Cardinals Wednesday in Texas League action.
Playing at Hammons Field in the second game of this week’s six-game series, the RockHounds improved to 5-6 overall while the Cardinals fell to 4-7.
Midland pitcher Chase Cohen was credited with the victory on the mound while Springfield’s Andre Granillo took the loss.
The RockHounds took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning before the Cardinals scored three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to move in front.
Springfield made it 5-2 after adding two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Cardinals would add runs in the sixth and ninth innings.
The RockHounds scored three runs in the sixth before erasing their 6-5 deficit in the ninth with their three run barrage.
Midland finished with 14 hits while Springfield had nine.
Wednesday’s victory was the RockHounds’ first of this series after Springfield took the opening win on Tuesday, 12-5.
Both teams will be back at it with a 6:35 p.m. contest Thursday.
The RockHounds will be back at home next week when they begin their series against Corpus Christi with an 11 a.m. game on April 25.
