MIDLAND The Midland RockHounds didn’t have many answers on offense in their 14-6 loss against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Friday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
The RockHounds surrendered 17 hits and fell behind in the early portion of the contest, struggling to catch up.
Chase Calabuig gave Midland an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, reaching home plate after Jeremy Eierman walked with loaded bases.
That was the only advantage the RockHounds held, getting into trouble by allowing six runs in the top of the second.
Maikel Garcia drove in Brhet Bewley with an RBI single to tie the score up at 1-1, then a two-run double from Michael Massey gave Northwest Arkansas its first lead.
Robbie Glendinning extended the advantage with a single to left field that scored Massey, followed by an RBI double from Logan Porter to bring in Glendinning.
Seuly Matias drove in the final run of the inning, scoring Porter with a double to left field.
Northwest Arkansas added in three more runs before the RockHounds responded in the bottom of the third when Kyle McCann and Eierman scored on an error at right field.
Shane Selman reached when Brett Harris grounded out at first base to make the score 9-4 before the end of the frame.
Northwest Arkansas went on to outscore the RockHounds 5-2 before the game ended, scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh.
Six pitchers saw action for the RockHounds, putting up five strikeouts and allowing seven earned runs with eight walks.
Harris led Midland with two RBIs, followed by William Simoneit, Marty Bechina and Eierman, who recorded one each.
The RockHounds (20-23 overall) will continue their series against Northwest Arkansas at 7 p.m. Saturday at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
