MONAHANS The Lubbock Estacado Matadors advanced to the Region I-4A boys basketball tournament with a 91-46 victory Monday over the Monahans Loboes in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal at the Jerry Larned Sports Complex.
Aldon Johnson scored 21 points to lead eighth-ranked Estacado (25-5). Bryan Rector scored 13 points, Larry Morrison and DreShawn Conwright added 12 apiece and Jordan Sherman scored 11.
Monahans (21-13) was led by David Birdwell with 15 points, while Seth Burgess and J.T. Pittman each scored 10. The Loboes were in the third round of the playoffs for just the third time in school history.
