HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Midland Legacy controls District 2-6A match against Permian

MIDLAND Midland Legacy controlled the courts against Permian, earning an 18-1 victory in a District 2-6A tennis match Tuesday at the Bush Tennis Center.

The Rebels went 6-1 in doubles (boys, girls, mixed) and then swept the boys and girls singles for the rout.

Permian’s boys doubles team of Samuel Soto and Anthony Gonzalez had the best chance for a point, losing to Midland Legacy’s Josh Aguilar and Jacob Brazell, 9-7, in their super set.

The match of the day came at Girls No. 4 singles where Permian’s Keira Turnbull-Hernandez battled Midland Legacy’s Hannah Horton through two long sets and tiebreaker.

Turnbull-Hernandez won the opening set, 7-5, with Horton prevailing in the second set by the same score.

Horton was then able to outlast Turnbull-Hernandez, 10-8, in the tiebreaker for the victory.
