Permian’s Chase Williams carded a 3-under-par 69 to take the lead after the first round of the West Texas Boys Classic Friday at the Odessa Country Club.
He sits two strokes ahead of Wolfforth Frenship’s Hunter Welch and three strokes ahead of Preston Defriend of Lubbock Coronado.
The Permian I team finished the opening round in seventh place after recording a 327, while Permian II sits 14th.
Charles Cernoch led Odessa High with an 83, with the Bronchos sitting in 15th.
The tournament will continue Saturday at the Ratliff Ranch Golf Links.
