KEYS TO VICTORY
>> 48 MINUTES: The Bronchos answered an opening touchdown by Lubbock Monterey with one of their own and then took control of the game in the second quarter. However, OHS relaxed too much in the second half, allowing the Plainsmen to come back and tie the game to force overtime.
>> MORE OF THE SAME: Opposing defenses are going to put quite a bit of focus on wide receiver Ivan Carreon and rightly so as he has become the top target for the Bronchos the past 11 games. But quarterback Jaylien Jones showed Odessa High isn’t just a one-receiver offense by connecting with Kielan Green nine times and Blane Mendoza and Brendyn Thompson five times each. Coupled with the Bronchos’ solid running game, the balance was there to keep opposing defenses honest.
>> EXTRA POSSESSIONS: The Bronchos didn’t force a turnover in the overtime victory against the Plainsmen, something that needs to change. By giving its offense just one extra possession in a game, the Odessa High defense could change the outcome of the contest without even being on the field.

BRONCHOS BREAKDOWN
Opponents to Watch
RB Brian Promesse: Scored a pair of touchdowns and a two-point conversion in the Trail Blazers’ double-overtime loss against Midland Christian last week.
LB Mario Holguin: Returning defensive standout who finished with 24 tackles last year as a sophomore. Intercepted a pass to stall a Mustangs’ drive last week.
DB Joshua De La Rosa: Leader in the secondary who had 58 tackles last season. His interception, at the Americas’ 3 with less than two minutes to play, allowed the Trail Blazers to get to overtime.
