Euless Trinity at Midland Legacy

>> Notes: It’s a rematch of last year’s area round playoff game and a chance for Euless Trinity to get revenge after coming up short last November. The Trojans began the season with a 49-28 win over Strake Jesuit last week. … The Rebels had a Friday to forget with last week’s 61-0 loss to Allen on the road. It was the first time Midland Legacy has been shutout since the Rebels’ 45-0 loss to Permian back in 2015. A loss would put the Rebels at 0-2 for the first time since 2008.

Midland High at El Paso Pebble Hills

>> Last Week: Southlake Carroll 48, Midland High 24; Canutillo 7, El Paso Pebble Hills 0

>> Notes: Midland High put in a good effort in last week’s loss to Class 6A No. 7-ranked Southlake Carroll at Dragon Stadium. Both teams were tied at 14 at the end of the first quarter before the Dragons pulled away. Quarterback Stroman Bridges put up 80 yards rushing on 17 carries while the Bulldogs’ offense put up 383 yards rushing on 63 carries. … There wasn’t much offense from Pebble Hills and Canutillo in last week’s 7-0 loss for the Spartans. Pebble Hills is looking to get back to the playoffs with head coach Ryan Warner in his first season in command of the program.

Wichita Falls Memorial Wolfforth Frenship

>> Last Week: Wichita Falls Memorial 47, Wyatt 20; Byron Nelson 48, Wolfforth Frenship 46

>> Notes: Playing in its first season, Wichita Falls Memorial got its first win in program history in last week’s victory against Wyatt. The Mavericks will get a slightly tougher challenge this week when they face a Wolfforth Frenship team that came close to defeating a good Byron Nelson team. … The Tigers had a great start against Byron Nelson last week but squandered a 21-point first quarter lead in a game that saw both teams go back and forth in the second half. Frenship quarterback Holden Phillips went 30-of-45 for 508 yards passing while wide receiver Chase Campbell had nine catches for 183 yards.

San Angelo Central at Amarillo High

>> Last Week: Abilene High 60, San Angelo Central 36; Amarillo High’s game was canceled due to weather.

>> Notes: San Angelo Central’s offense showed it can still put points on the board last week. Unfortunately, the Bobcats’ defense is still struggling as San Angelo Central was dealt a 60-36 loss to Abilene High last Friday. The Bobcats will have a slightly easier task this week when they face an Amarillo High team that’s going to be playing its season opener a week later than expected. … The Sandies will be hoping Mother Nature cooperates this Friday after their game against Odessa High last Thursday was called off due to lightning. The game lasted a grand total of six plays as Amarillo High managed a 95-yard touchdown run by Bryson Brown on a kickoff return.
