The Odessa Compass Academy football team improved leaps and bounds defensively during the 2022 season.
Led by first-year coach Floyd White, the Cougars went from allowing 58.7 points per game in 2021 to just 24.9 points per contest last season.
That 23.8-point difference was the sixth-best improvement in the state among schools with first-year coaches.
Axtell, led by Craig Horn, had the biggest change at 25.1 points (45.2 ppg in 2021 to 20.1 in 2022).
