Ben Saldivar scored a game-high 21 points off the bench to lead the Permian boys basketball team to a 63-43 victory against Midland Christian Friday at the Permian Fieldhouse.
Race Herr added 10 points for the Panthers, who improved to 10-4 overall.
Josiah Wray led the Mustangs with 17 points, with Hunter Hamilton adding 13 in the loss.
It was Permian’s final game before Christmas, with the Panthers set to travel to the Allen Tournament on Dec. 28 for three days.
Herr opened the game with a dunk, following by a steal and layup from Jimmy Solis.
Hamilton tried to keep the Mustangs (11-11) close with a pair of field goals and a 3-pointer from the left wing, but the Panthers opened a 13-7 lead after Elijah Minjarez drove the left baseline for a layup with less than three minutes to play.
Saldivar then entered the game and hit back-to-back 3-pointers to push the Panthers’ lead to 19-11 with less than a minute remaining in the opening quarter.
Permian never looked back, with Saldivar outscoring the Mustangs, 10-8, in the second quarter to push the Panthers’ lead to 33-22 at halftime.
