Extra innings were needed when the Permian and Wolfforth Frenship baseball teams faced off Tuesday at McCanlies Field in District 2-6A action.
The back-and-forth affair saw both teams surge at different points, with Permian finding a way to tie the game up in the seventh inning.
Wolfforth Frenship ultimately came away with a 12-11 win in nine innings, claiming the District 2-6A title with one more game left in the regular season.
Things were close early on as the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, seeing Permian answer immediately with four runs of its own in the bottom of the frame.
The Panthers took their first lead with a two-run single from Callan Warren in the bottom of the second, but the advantage was short lived.
Wolfforth Frenship brought in four more runners in the third to reclaim the lead and extended it with three more scores in the top of the fourth.
Facing an 11-6 deficit, a solo homer from Xavier Melendez in the bottom of the sixth gave Permian the boost it needed to stay in the game.
An RBI double from Sebastian Bravo and a three-run home run from Melendez tied the game up at 11-11 in the bottom of the seventh.
Although Permian held Wolfforth Frenship off through the eighth, a one-run double from Brady Boles in the top of the ninth was enough for the Tigers to claim the victory.
The Tigers (20-9 overall, 14-3 district) and the Panthers (23-8, 12-5) will close out their regular seasons facing each other at 4:30 p.m. Friday at McCanlies Field.
