Panthers win district opener
ABILENE The Permian baseball team opened its District 2-6A slate with a 6-2 victory against Abilene High Tuesday at Blackburn Field.
Caden Stiles RBI single in the second inning got the scoring started for the Panthers, who added three runs in the third.
After scoring twice more in the top of the fifth, the Panthers allowed two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Abilene High’s Diego Nieto singled on a line drive to centerfield, scoring Diego Flores and Beckham Paul.
Permian closed out the game with a double play and a ground out to first.
The Panthers (11-2 overall, 1-0 district) continue district play against San Angelo Central at 4 p.m. Thursday in Wolfforth.
Opening loss
The Permian softball team suffered a 12-2 loss in six innings against Abilene High to start District 2-6A play Tuesday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.
Abilene High got out to a hot start, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Amyah Starks.
The Lady Eagles extended their lead with a solo homer from Lanay Carr and an RBI double from Starks in the top of the second.
The Lady Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the third when Taylor Ramirez hit a two-run homer to left field.
Abilene High scored four runs in the sixth to ends things early.
The Lady Panthers (14-7-1 overall, 0-1 district) will travel to face Wolfforth Frenship at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Wolfforth.
Shut out
MIDLAND The Odessa High softball team struggled offensively, losing 3-0 against Midland High in the District 2-6A opener Tuesday at the Audrey Gill Sports Complex.

Nalaney Paul extended Midland High’s advantage in the bottom of the fourth with an inside the park home run that also scored Lilana Garza.
Meghan Gattis pitched six innings for the Lady Bronchos, allowing five hits and striking out four batters.
Midland High’s Alex Aguilar struck out 15 while allowing five hits.
The Lady Bronchos (5-5-1 overall, 0-1 district) look to bounce back when they host San Angelo Central at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Ratliff Softball Complex.
