MIDLAND The Permian bats came alive at just the right time to lift the Panthers to a 6-5 victory against Lubbock Monterey on the first day of the Tournament of Champions Thursday at Christensen Stadium.
The Panthers trailed 4-3 before breaking out for three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and then holding off the Plainsmen the rest of the way.
Permian is back in action against Canyon Randall at 10 a.m. Friday at Midland High’s Zachery Field, before moving over to face El Paso Pebble Hills at 1 p.m. at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
