MONTGOMERY Odessa native Larry Nunez carded a 1-under-par 71 at Bentwater Yacht & County Club to qualify for the U.S. Senior Amateur on Wednesday in Montgomery.
Nunez, who now lives in Austin, finished three shots behind medalist Andrew Whitacre of The Woodlands. David Ortego of Spring was third after winning a four-person playoff for the final qualifying spot.
The U.S. Senior Amateur will be played Aug. 27 through Sept. 1 at The Kittansett Club in Marion, Mass.
