ABILENE Alyssa Valdez scored two goals, the second coming on a penalty kick in the 97th minute to lift the Permian girls soccer team to a 3-2 comeback victory in overtime against Keller Central in a Class 6A area playoff game Tuesday at McMurry University.
Permian improved to 11-9-3 on the season and advanced to face Southlake Carroll in the regional quarterfinals, with details still being worked out according to Permian head coach Chad Peterson.
Keller Central lead 2-0 after goals in the 25th and 45th minutes before Valdez scored in the 49th minute to cut the Lady Panthers’ deficit in half.
Anai Lopez tied the match in the 55th minute with her fourth goal of the playoffs.
The teams then battled the rest of regulation and through most of the extra time before Keller Central committed a foul inside the penalty area to set up Valdez’s game-winner.
