COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: UTPB swept on first day of the season

UTPB volleyball team began its 2024 season with consecutive losses Friday at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational in San Angelo.

The Falcons (0-2) lost to Central Oklahoma in four sets before losing to Fort Lewis in five to end the day.

In the first game, UTPB lost by scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22.

Gloria Geurin had 16 kills to lead UTPB while Kennedi Wright had 11.

April Egwu had six blocks while Geurin had four and Jenna Gray finished with 23 digs.

Central Oklahoma’s Jenna Karp had 16 kills to lead the Lady Bronchos while also putting up four blocks along with Mikiah Perdue.

Katie Le had 30 digs to lead Central Oklahoma.

In the second game, UTPB lost by scores of 29-27, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 18-16.

Wright had 15 kills to lead the Falcons while Logan Terrazas had six blocks and Gray had 27 assists.

Gabby Gregorski had 30 digs for UTPB.

Fort Lewis was led by Lauren Shea’s 21 kills while Ivy Schoditsch had five blocks and Emery Pomroy had 20 digs.

UTPB will be back in action starting with an 8 a.m. game against New Mexico Highlands.

The Falcons will finish up the weekend against Emmanuel University later in the day at 2 p.m.
