COLLEGE SOFTBALL: UTPB names Avila-Oropeza as new coach

UTPB has announced the hiring of alum AubreeAna Avila-Oropeza as the Falcons’ new head softball coach.

Avila-Oropeza returns to UTPB after serving as the assistant coach at Midland College beginning in February 2021, where she focused on pitching and recruitment.

Avila-Oropeza played at Paris Junior College for the 2017 season before transferring to UTPB where she played for former coach Tiala Tagaloa.

During her time at UTPB, Avila-Oropeza primarily pithed and played in the outfield.

In 51 games, she batted .298 with 36 hits and seven stolen bases.

In the circle, she recorded 16 appearances with a 3.2 earned run average.

She stepped away from playing softball after the 2018 season due to medical concerns.

Avila-Oropeza replaces Samantha Mendez who left to take over as the head coach at Illinois College.

The Falcons went 7-44 during the 2024 season.
