YUMA, ARIZ. Bobbi Leitha scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Seminole State (Okla.) a 1-0 victory against Odessa College on the first day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships at the Pacific Avenue Athletic Complex.
Leitha reached base on Seminole State’s only hit of the game against Lady Wranglers’ starter Aydenne Brown.
Leitha moved to third on a fielder’s choice and then scored on Julie Kennedy’s fly ball.
Brown struck out six and walked two in keeping No. 6 Seminole State off balance the entire game.
Odessa College had several chances in the final innings but couldn’t convert.
The Lady Wranglers, the No. 11 seed, face the loser of the Florida Southwestern-Central Alabama game at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
