UTPB welcomed Samantha Mendez as its new softball coach with a press conference Monday at the Kirk Edward’s Auditorium.
Mendez comes to UTPB after serving as the assistant coach at Ottawa University in Kansas at the NAIA level.
At Ottawa, Mendez helped the Braves become an NAIA power in four seasons where they won back-to-back regular season Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championships in 2021 and ‘22, winning 81 games in that process.
The Braves also reached the NAIA World Series in 2021.
Prior to Ottawa University, Mendez served as an assistant at Northeastern State at the Division II level in Tahlequah, Okla. During that stretch, Mendez helped the RiverHawks reach the MIAA conference playoffs all three seasons and had six All-Conference and one All-American selection.
Mendez replaces Tiala Tagaloa as the UTPB head coach.
