YUMA, ARIZ. The Florida Southwestern State softball team exacted a measure of revenge against Odessa College, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 5-4 victory in the consolation final of the NJCAA Division I Softball Championship Friday at Pacific Avenue Athletic Conference.
The Lady Wranglers (55-7) finished third in the tournament, matching the 2004-2005 team for the program’s best finish.
They had defeated the Lady Bucs, 2-1, on Thursday, scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh.
Odessa College led 4-1 after Brooke Nauman hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning.
But the Lady Wranglers couldn’t keep top-ranked Florida Southwestern off the scoreboard as it scored once in the fifth and sixth innings before taking the lead in the seventh.
The Lady Bucs will face McLennan Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday needing to win twice to capture the national title.
