Odessa College will add a women’s golf program beginning in the fall of 2022, the school announced Thursday.
The move comes after the NJCAA moved to divide women’s golf into Division I and III to start the 2021-22 season. Before that, over 80 participating teams competed in a nondivisional schedule.
“Odessa is a golfing community, and there are many competitive women’s golf programs across the Permian Basin. This makes the Women’s Golf program an easy choice for Odessa College,” Wrangler athletic director Wayne Baker said in a news release.
“The addition of a women’s golf program will enhance female athletic opportunities for student-athletes at OC, with many of those educational opportunities going to students from West Texas and the Permian Basin. We are excited to provide these additional opportunities to the young people attending Odessa College.”
Last month, Odessa College furloughed its men’s and women’s cross country and track teams.
