COMMERCE It was a tough evening for the UTPB football team against Texas A&M-Commerce
After a scoreless first quarter, the host Lions dominated the second and third quarters en route to a 41-0 blanking of the Falcons in Lone Star Conference play Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Texas A&M-Commerce (6-3 overall, 4-1 in conference), which will be moving up to compete at the Division I level next season, took the lead just 10 seconds into the second quarter and never looked back.
As it has all season, the final minutes of the first half came back to haunt UTPB (5-3 ,3-2) as the Lions scored 14 points in the final 87 seconds of the second quarter to break the game open.
UTPB was held to 167 yards of total offense on the night, with Texas A&M-Commerce finishing with 321, including 183 rushing.
The Falcons return home to host Texas A&M-Kingsville at 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at Ratliff Stadium.
UTPB has won the past two meetings with the Javalinas.
