The UTPB football team delivered No. 16-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville its first loss of the season in a 29-17 win Saturday at Ratliff Stadium.
Its the first time in program history that UTPB has defeated a team in the top 25 rankings.
The Falcons moved to 4-1, 2-0 while the Javelinas are now 3-1, 1-1.
Texas A&M-Kingsville took an early 7-0 lead before UTPB responded with a 3-yard touchdown run by Nemier Herod with 5:21 in the first quarter.
A 36-yard field goal by Rafael Vargas early in the second quarter put the Falcons ahead and UTPB wouldn’t trail for the remainder of the game.
The Falcons led 13-10 at halftime and UTPB would score touchdowns from Kory Harris and Kenny Hrncir in the second half to remain in front.
UTPB will next face Midwestern State (2-2, 1-1) at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in Wichita Falls.
The Mustangs are coming off a bye week.
