Falcons continue upset string
Holly Hemmeline scored a game-high 19 points to lead UTPB to a 69-57 victory against No. 4 Texas Woman’s University on Saturday at the Falcon Dome.
It is the second straight victory against a ranked opponent for the Falcons (13-14 overall, 10-11 Lone Star Conference), after defeating No. 17 UT Tyler on Thursday.
Makayla Bingley added 14 points and Avalon Munoz finished with 11 for UTPB.
Alexus Quaadman finished with a game-high 11 rebounds.
UTPB currently sits in the eighth, and final, playoff berth in the overall conference standings, one game in front of Eastern New Mexico and St. Edward’s.
UTPB has one game remaining, against Angelo State on Thursday in San Angelo.
St. Edward’s will face St. Mary’s on Tuesday and Thursday, with Eastern New Mexico facing in-state rival Western New Mexico on Monday and Thursday.
Sadie Moyer scored 15 points to lead Texas Woman’s (23-3, 18-2), with Ngozi Obienke adding 11 in the loss.
It was the second straight defeat for the Pioneers after losing to Angelo State on Thursday.
Cold spell the difference for UTPB
The UTPB men’s basketball team scored just four points over the final eight minutes of the game and lost, 63-58, against Dallas Baptist on Saturday at the Falcon Dome.
DaJuan Jones scored a game-high 17 points and added seven assists in the Falcons final home game of the season.
Max Warren added 16 points for UTPB (13-17 overall, 7-14 Lone Star Conference), with Keyon Craddock adding 12 in the loss.
Ricky Lujan scored 15 points to lead Dallas Baptist (15-13, 10-10), with Cameron Kahn adding 13 and Jalen White 11 to the victory.
UTPB led, 54-52, on a Craddock 3-pointer with 8:18 remaining to play.
Dallas Baptist then scored five quick points to take a lead it never relinquished.
