The Rev. Karin Carlson, pastor of Mackey Chapel United Methodist Church and associate pastor of the First UMC, will be ordained as a deacon by Bishop W. Earl Bledsoe of Albuquerque, N.M., at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the First UMC Sanctuary at 415 N. Lee Ave.
Two choirs totaling 50 singers will participate as the Rev. Carlson’s ordination is enacted on behalf of the Albuquerque-based New Mexico Conference of the United Methodist Church.
She earned a theological studies degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., after taking bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from the University of North Texas in Denton and the University of Texas Permian Basin.
Carlson taught and coached tennis at Odessa College for 23 years before entering the ministry. She and her husband Jim have two daughters.
