One day last week I visited an old friend at the nursing home. She remembered another old friend from long ago school days visiting with her and the great fellowship and joy they shared for a little while remembering days past.
It occurred to me that in this very important Lenten time of the year as we remember and anticipate the fact of promised resurrection assured to us by the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ that day 2,000 years ago, that part of our anticipation of the coming resurrection of us all there is the reality that the reunion of us all on that Day will transcend the years, forgetfulness, illness, disappointments, sadnesses, and failures of the years we have endured.
Fellowship with and remembering is the work of our grieving today, but will be fully realized and healed in the coming resurrection to fulfill the promise of the resurrection of Jesus that we celebrate on Easter. On that coming resurrection morning we will fully understand, realize, and experience the fullness of what eternal life means. The joy, love, meaning, and camaraderie of our unions in Christ will fully realize the promise of the short moments of fellowship and remembering our experience every day, serendipitously, in this life.
