The Odessa Chamber of Commerce is seeking sponsors for the 2019 Junior Leadership Odessa (JLO) session that begins in January with an annual retreat, followed by four additional sessions learning about subjects such as healthcare, media and education, arts and culture, and government and public safety.
Junior Leadership Odessa (JLO) is a program for Junior-year students from Falcon Early College High School at Odessa College, New Tech Odessa, OCTECHs, Odessa High School and Permian High School. The program is designed to expose the students to Odessa’s resources and the many opportunities available in the community. Participants attend sessions once a week, through the months of January and February.
Each student needs a sponsor of $200. Classes are limited to 40 students. Each session will also have a food sponsor who will provide dinner to the group.

Odessa Arts is seeking applications from artists and designers interested in creating artwork for four electrical along the intersections of 52nd Street and Tanglewood Lane, 52nd Street and JBS Parkway, and the East and West entrances of Music City Mall.
The boxes will become part of the identity of an Outdoor Gallery of Public Art, joining twenty already completed boxes. The completed boxes will be unveiled in Summer 2019.
One artist or designer will be selected for this opportunity and will be paid an all-inclusive fee of $4,000 to create the artwork. We are seeking an artist or designer who will approach the boxes as a family of art works and can create a unified and artistically interesting body of work. The chosen artist will be required to submit a design for four traffic utility boxes. The boxes will be wrapped with adhesive vinyl on which the art has been printed.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of Odessa artists, residents, and business owners and three finalists will be selected, based upon the criteria below. Finalists will be paid a $500 stipend to develop a proposal and present it to the panel. One artist or designer will be awarded the commission, based upon their proposal, presentation and references.
Criteria for selection of finalists: Artistic excellence as demonstrated by past work and shown in the submitted materials, understanding of the project and ability to create work that responds to the goals of the project, and ability to create a work that will be durable and easy to maintain for an expected life span of at least five years,
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 28. Finalists will be selected in early April. Finalist proposals will be due in May and the commission will be awarded in June.
Submission requirements: A typed Letter of Interest (no longer than a page); current artistic resume including contact information (no longer than three pages); up to five digital images of previous work, submitted electronically (Images must be JPEG file format and should be labeled with a number indicating the viewing order and the artist’s last name. Images must be no more than 1920 pixels on the longest side and must be “high quality” JPEG file format at 300 dpi.); a corresponding image list with image number, title, medium, dimensions, brief description, and date of work; and three references with current contact information including phone numbers and emails.

Odessa Fire Rescue is accepting applications for the 2019 Citizens Fire Academy. The 10 week program begins March 5, and will be held from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday nights.

The Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, 1500 I-20 West, Midland, has scheduled STEAM Sprouts, a new STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math) educational program for children ages 4-5, on Mondays, beginning March 18 through April 22.
There are two time options to choose from, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children may attend only during the time they are registered for.
The program will engage pre-school children in STEAM-based curriculum and challenges. The theme for this spring is Lego Steam Park. Kids will learn about artistic design, performing arts and probability in a carnival-themed experience building boats, ferris wheels, gears and guessing wheels.
