For months now there has been a buzz around town about the completely unfathomable probability that Ector County voters will not be given an opportunity to vote for County Chair in March. It’s hard to even wrap my head around the thought that a few appointed friends of the County Chair could possibly silence an entire county yet again! Ector County we must not let this happen.
I’ve read all the Letters to Editor, I’ve read social media posts and comments. And so far I have not heard one good reason why voters are being silenced by their Precinct Chairs. I’ve read letters from a couple of precinct chairs but their excuses were ludicrous and insulting. The few precinct chairs that have spoken out seem to agree Tisha is doing a good job. But shouldn’t that be decided by the voters?
But what’s most surprising is the County Chair Tisha Crow has remained silent on this issue. Where is Tisha Crow?
About a month ago Crow finally accepted an invitation for a public discussion with Ronnie Lewis. On a social media post she said she would get with him by the end of the week with a venue, date and time. But never did. I guess it’s hard to publicly defend the “right not to vote”. Is she hoping this will all go away as quickly as it did the last election cycle?
Unfortunately for Tisha Crow, it is not going away this time. In fact, if the Precinct Chairs deny an opponent again this year, I predict this could end up to be one of the biggest political stories Ector County has ever witnessed.
