LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Midland Animal Shelter plagued by capacity issues — again

Midland’s animal shelter is again at capacity.

The count Friday was 150 dogs and 100 cats awaiting adoption. The news is a punch in the gut for those of us calling for responsible pet ownership in our community. Remember, it was just two months ago that local nonprofits came to the aid of Midland Animal Services and more than 140 dogs with a fostering effort for the ages.

But this past week, Animal Services was plagued again with capacity issues, and for the second time in two months we call on compassionate Midlanders to save the lives of nearly 250 animals in need of loving homes.

Again, we call on our community to act with a sense of urgency. Yes, this call to action is likely to frustrate many, but the saving of lives requires another fostering/adoption effort for the ages.

How you can help:

>> Adopt: Visit Midland Animal Services and meet our wonderful dogs and cats. Each one comes with a voucher for a spay/neuter, has received a first round of vaccines, is dewormed and is ready to become a beloved member of your family.

>> Foster: If you’re not ready to adopt, consider fostering. This temporary arrangement provides a safe and loving environment for an animal while it waits for its forever home. An application for fostering is on our website.

>> Volunteer: Your time and skills can make a huge difference in the lives of our shelter animals.

>> Contact Us: For more information about adopting, fostering or volunteering, please contact Midland Animal Services at 432-685-7424 or visit our website at Animal Services | Midland, TX—Official Website (midlandtexas.gov). Follow us on social media for updates on our animals and events.

Together, we can make a difference and give these deserving animals the homes they need. Adopt today and experience the unconditional love and joy a shelter pet can bring to your life.
