LANDGRAF: Honoring our West Texas mothers

By State Rep. Brooks Landgraf

As we celebrate Mother’s Day, a time to honor the incredible women who shape our lives, I can’t help but reflect on the unique spirit of West Texas that permeates every aspect of our existence. In the vast expanse of our region, where the sky stretches endlessly and the land whispers stories of perseverance, our mothers stand as pillars of strength, love, and resilience.

West Texas mothers embody the values that define our way of life in the rugged terrain of the Permian Basin. They are the epitome of hard work, often balancing multiple roles with grace and determination. Whether they’re tending to the family ranch, working long hours in the oil fields, or serving their communities in various capacities, these women tackle every challenge with unwavering resolve.

But beyond their work ethic, West Texas mothers are known for their boundless love and generosity. They are the heart and soul of our families, offering support, guidance, and unconditional love through life’s triumphs and tribulations. Their warmth and kindness create a nurturing environment where children can grow and thrive, instilling in them the same values of integrity, perseverance, and compassion that define our West Texas heritage.

And in the face of adversity, mothers exemplify resilience like no other. Their ability to find strength in adversity, to keep pushing forward no matter the odds, is a testament to the indomitable spirit that runs deep in the veins of every West Texan.

For me personally, I am blessed to have two remarkable women in my life who embody the essence of motherhood. My wife, Shelby, is the epitome of grace, strength, and compassion. As the mother of our daughter Hollis Rose, she navigates the complexities of motherhood with unwavering dedication and boundless love. Her kindness, resilience, and unwavering support are the foundation upon which our family thrives, and I am endlessly grateful for her presence in our lives.

And of course, I cannot overlook the profound influence of my own mother, Beverly. Her wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love have shaped me into the person I am today. Through her tireless devotion to her family and community she has always led by example and has taught me the true meaning of perseverance and resilience.

So as we celebrate Mother’s Day this year, let us take a moment to honor and appreciate the remarkable women who have shaped us into who we are today. Let us cherish the memories of laughter shared around the kitchen table, the lessons learned on dusty back roads, and the quiet moments of solace in the embrace of a mother’s love.

To all the mothers of West Texas, thank you for your unwavering dedication, your boundless love, and your enduring spirit. You are the heart and soul of our communities, and we are endlessly grateful for all that you do.

God bless Texas!
