Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis and Odessa Police Department Chief Michael Gerke faced off in a friendly competition to see who could raise the most money for the Salvation Army as part of the Red Kettle Challenge Saturday afternoon at the Walmart Super Center on 42nd Street. Both lawmen took to the challenge and used props and mascots to help entice shoppers to donate as they spent two hours ringing their bells in front of their red kettles. The amounts raised by both will be announced by the Salvation Army on Monday.
