Doo-wop group The Velvets were honored Saturday afternoon at Blackshear Elementary School in Odessa.
The Velvets were an American doo-wop group from Odessa. They were formed in 1959 by Blackshear eighth grade English teacher Virgil Johnson and four of his students, Mark Prince, Clarence Rigsby, Robert Earl Thursby and William Solomon.
