Wife accused of hammer attack

A 33-year-old Odessa woman was arrested Saturday morning after her husband accused her of attacking him with a hammer.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a Lantana Court resident, 34, called 911 to report his wife was threatening him with a hammer and then the dispatcher heard a struggle over the phone.

When police arrived, the man said he and his wife, Amber Marie Perez, got into an argument over something that happened six years ago and she grabbed a hammer and swung it at him when he told her he was leaving, the report stated.

The man told officers he took the hammer away from her, but she grabbed another, the report stated.

According to the report, the husband showed officers multiple videos showing his wife swatting at his phone, using the hammer to damage his belongings and swinging the hammer at him.

He also said she struck him in the head with her fist several times.

Officers saw scratches and red circular injuries to the man’s forearms, knee and ribs, the report stated.

Perez was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. She was released from the Ector County jail Monday after posting a $30,000 surety bond.
