The West Texas Food Bank is once again participating in the National Association of Letter Carrier’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive scheduled for Saturday, a press release detailed.
Midland and Odessa residents are asked to fill up a sturdy bag with nonperishable and unexpired foods to be left out by their mailbox on Saturday. This is the 30th year for this event.
“This is always one of the largest food drives that happens in the Permian Basin,” Libby Campbell, CEO of the West Texas Food Bank, stated in the press release. “We are so grateful to the Letter Carriers who work really hard to make this a success, and I am always blown away by the support of our community for our neighbors in need.”
The West Texas Food Bank is still serving almost double the amount of families since the beginning of the pandemic, the press release stated. In our last fiscal year, the food bank has distributed almost thirteen million pounds of food. The food bank are able to distribute these large amounts of food through a network of partner agencies and support of our very generous community.
In the 30 years since it began, the food drive has collected about 1.82 billion pounds of food for struggling residents, nationally, the press release detailed. According to NALC Stamp Out Hunger Coordinator, Sallie Moore, the food drive relies on its local and rural letter carriers to carry out the event.
