West Odessa couple arrested on assault charges

A West Odessa couple was arrested Wednesday after a 14-year-old girl called 911 to report her 16-year-old sister had been attacked by them.

According to an Ector County Sheriff’s Office report, deputies were dispatched to a home in the 12000 block of West Whirlaway around 7:30 p.m. April 9 after the younger girl called 911.

Both girls and a 13-year-old boy told a forensic interviewer, deputies and CPS investigators Debra Sailors, 59, swung a broomstick like a baseball bat at the 16-year-old’s head and her husband, Cecil Sailors, 62, choked the girl to the point where she had a hard time breathing.

The pair had become upset at the girl for not lifting her head up from a table, the report stated.

CPS investigators found bruises on the girl’s forehead, behind her right ear and on her left bicep, according to the report.

Debra Sailors was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. She was released Thursday after posting a $25,000 surety bond.

Cecil Sailors was arrested on suspicion of assault, restricting the airway, a third-degree felony. He remained in custody Thursday on a $25,000 surety bond.
