The Colorado River Municipal Water District’s Board of Directors announced Thursday that they have named Cole Walker as the district’s next general manager.
Walker will begin serving in his new role on Dec. 1. He will succeed John Grant, who has led the District since 1995.
“After a comprehensive search and interview process that took several months, we are pleased to have unanimously agreed on Cole Walker as the next general manager of CRMWD,” Board President Mickey Jones said in a news release.
A native of Big Spring, Walker is a professional engineer and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Texas Tech University as well as a master of business administration degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin.
He most recently served as CRMWD’s assistant general manager overseeing the district’s Operations and Engineering divisions. Walker will be the fourth general manager of CRMWD since its establishment by the Texas Legislature in 1949. He joined CRMWD in 2006 and will be responsible for managing a complex water transmission system with a staff of 88 people and an annual operating budget of $40 million.
“I am honored to have been selected to serve as CRMWD’s next general manager,” Walker said in the release. “I want to thank the board of directors for the trust and confidence they have placed in me to lead the district. I am excited to build on our past success and continue to serve the water needs of our region.”
CRMWD provides wholesale raw water to its member cities of Big Spring, Odessa, and Snyder, as well as six additional municipal customers. The district serves more than 600,000 people in a service area that includes 36 counties, as well as serving three industrial, seven mining, and approximately 300 rural water customers.
