“The list seems to just continue to grow,” Vice President for Community Engagement and Partnerships Jacqui Gore said.

As a working mom, Gore said she understands the importance of summer camps.

“The camps here at UTPB are important because it gets young people on our camps and we hope that will plant the seed to encourage them to start thinking about going to college and thinking about becoming a Falcon when they graduate from high school. And if not a Falcon, we want them to think about college and start making those plans to attend somewhere,” Gore said.

“I think the opportunity for these kids to walk the campus of a university is pretty special. Most kids don’t get that opportunity and their parents will come back and forth to campus to pick them up, so the parents might also be enticed to think about higher education as well. This gives us an opportunity to build relationships with those families,” she added.

The athletic camps also give students and parents a chance to build relationships with coaches.

“It’s a great opportunity for the University of Texas Permian Basin to get more involved in our community outreach,” Gore said.

There will be a Youth Day Camp that’s for kindergarten through eighth grade students from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 3-4.

Registration is $50.

There is a high school youth camp for ages 14-18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 22. That also has a $50 registration fee.

The youth camp includes football instruction, position specific instruction, running, jumping and combine testing, Gore said. The high school edition on June 22 is meant to evaluate and teach high school football players.

The football program is holding camps in different cities across Texas.

“Those camps not only help high school kids get ready for their high school season and start thinking about college football, but it’s also a recruiting opportunity for UTPB coaches to see the great talent across the state. The one here on the UTPB campus on June 22, that will be the same thing to help our local high school students get ready for their high school season, but also to check out the talent. We’ll have athletes you know who may come in from other parts of the state for that event as well,” Gore said.

This camp is for high school boys who aspire to play college basketball. They will focus on skill development, practice drills and competition in order to be evaluated by UTPB basketball coaches.

Soccer league will go on from June 1 through July 31.

“It’s a seven-on-seven high school soccer league. … This is the second year the soccer team has put this one. There will be a girls and a boys league and the games will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays on the UTPB turf field. It’s $800 per team,” Gore said.

With seven people on each team, they will split the cost. There is a maximum of 12 players per team, but they will play seven-on-seven.
