The team of University of Texas Permian Basin students that designed a plane for the Society of Automotive Engineers Aero Design Competition in Dallas received an award for Best Engineering Design for fast unloading an aircraft against the clock with a speed of 3.5 seconds.
UTPB made the announcement Friday.
The UTPB Team finished in eighth place overall out of 45 registered international teams. According to SAE officials, no first-time competitors have ever been in the top 10 in the competition’s history until now, a news release said.
