Sex offender gets life in child rape case

An Ector County jury found a 40-year-old man guilty of raping a 12-year-old girl Thursday and sentenced him to life in prison.

According to court records, Richard Lee Davis was indicted in December 2021 on an aggravated sexual assault of a child charge in connection with incidents that took place in October 2019.

Davis, who records show has an extensive criminal history, was placed on 10 years deferred adjudication in another aggravated sexual assault of a child case in Coryell, Texas in August 2007. He was later adjudicated guilty and sentenced to five years in prison. He’s also been arrested several times for failing to register as a sex offender.

The state was represented by Steven Lively and Bill Prasher. Judge John Shrode of the 358th District Court presided. Davis’ attorneys were Johanna Curry and Rudolf Moisiuc.
