Police: Woman admits to stabbing husband

An Odessa woman was arrested Saturday after she admitted to stabbing her 61-year-old husband.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received a call from Maria Arenivas’ daughter around 10:15 p.m. Saturday stating her mother had stabbed her father.

When officers arrived at the home in the 400 block of Jefferson, they found a highly intoxicated man with a large laceration on his right calf, the report stated. He told police he’d stabbed himself and refused to answer any questions.

“It was apparent (the man) and Maria were extremely intoxicated to the point they weren’t making much sense,” the report stated.

The man was taken to the hospital, the report stated.

According to the report, Arenivas, 47, told officers she got angry with her husband of 21-years for shaking something in front of her and he took off running when she threatened him. The report stated Arenivas said she then chased and stabbed him.

What he was shaking was redacted from the report.

Arenivas was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She was released from the Ector County jail Monday after posting a $25,000 surety bond.
