The Odessa Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious death of a 13-year-old child. This incident occurred in the 1900 block of E. 13th St., where officers found the child deceased from a probable overdose. Currently, members of the Homicide Unit are in charge of the investigation.
We have identified persons of interest in relation to this incident, and the investigation is still very active. Due to the nature of overdose cases, it is likely to take some time for investigators to develop evidence sufficient to present to the Ector County Grand Jury.
An autopsy was conducted on the child and the preliminary results indicate a fentanyl overdose. The next of kin has been notified.
