Odessan arrested on weapons charge

An Odessa man was arrested early Friday morning on weapon and drug charges.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers responded to the Golden Crest Apartments on Tanglewood Lane around 12:40 a.m. for a shots fired call.

A 911 caller said two men fired a gun about 10 times before walking into a specific apartment, the report stated.

When officers arrived, they found six 9 mm shell casings near the apartment and when they interviewed the four people inside the apartment, they said thereā€™d been a fight between two girls, ages 17 and 18, with the same last name, the report stated.

One of the girls said she saw Nathan Garay, 20, leave the apartment with a gun and then heard gunshots. The other girl said she was in the bathroom with the fourth occupant of the apartment when she heard gunshots.

Officers, after obtaining a search warrant, found a 9 mm handgun on the kitchen counter with one round in the chamber and four in the magazine, the report stated. The magazine can hold up to 12 rounds.

Officers also found nearly six grams of cocaine in a bedroom closet, the report stated.

Garay was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and discharging a firearm in certain municipalities. He was released from the Ector County jail later the same day after posting surety bonds of $27,000.
